For example, this public key below would fail when imported to the Ipswitch server....

---- BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----
Subject: usertest1234

User key authentication to WSFTP server.

Ipswitch's WS FTP server uses the same kind of public key used by SSH Tectia Server, but the Ipswitch WS FTP server doesn't seem to support wrapping the comment in the key.

For example, this public key below would fail when imported to the Ipswitch server:

---- BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----
Subject: usertest1234
Comment: "[2048-bit dsa, usertest1234@SERVER123, Mon May 12 13:04:34 2\
008]"
AAAAB3NzaC1kc3MAAAEBALSLIhgV0MfPnJFd9GHTaA1MxV5syxtDjLMjX0bfbrGBHh/nVw
...
Q1LB+BzkLSNFyCNKeldIqjYuFmqd6qXHcwJx2fJQ==
---- END SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----

Reviewing the "Comment:" line, notice that the text is wrapped once it exceeds 70 characters per line, and the text 008]" ends up on the next line.
Solution: If your comment line wraps like the one above, try reducing the length of the comment text and re-importing it into the Ipswitch server.

This should fix the public key auth issue, if the rest of the public key set up has been properly executed.

Example from above shortened to work with a Ipswitch server:

---- BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----
Subject: usertest1234
Comment: "[2048-bit dsa, usertest1234@SERVER123, Mon May 12 13:04:34]"
AAAAB3NzaC1kc3MAAAEBALSLIhgV0MfPnJFd9GHTaA1MxV5syxtDjLMjX0bfbrGBHh/nVw
...

---- END SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----

Thanks for answering the question, renaes. Others viewing this thread may be interested to know that we're making two SSH key authentication enhancements in WS_FTP Server 7.5.1, coming out in March 2010. One allows the use of multiple SSH keys on a single account. The other allows people using LDAP authentication to require multiple factor authentication.

Thanks for using WS_FTP Server!
