Tectia Client and Server generally guarantee full functionality without any character-related issues only when the 127 characters of the US-ASCII code set are used across the products and platforms. The Tectia development team is, however, continually extending the internationalization of Tectia products and various features already support Unicode and legacy character code sets either fully or partially.

For example, most functionality should work without problems if both Tectia Client and Tectia Server are running on machines with the same operating system set to the same locale and character code set. In particular, remote command execution in such environments is supported in virtually any character set.

For instance, the following command (or similar) works without problems when executed on a Japanese Windows machine towards Tectia Server running on a Japanese Windows machine:

> sshg3 user@server "type C:\鈴木\鈴木.txt"

However, since this type of a setup has not been officially supported by previous versions of Tectia Client/Server, various issues are preventing this command from succeeding when run between certain versions of Tectia Client/Server.

Unix

The following table lists which Tectia and third-party client/server combinations support (‘OK’) and do not support (‘-‘) Unicode and legacy character code sets on Unix:

* A third-party (not Tectia) product oblivious of character sets and Unicode

Windows

On Windows, only legacy character sets are supported - not full Unicode. The example command above will work as long as only characters from the Japanese Shift-JIS code page (932) are used in the command. For example the following command that contains characters from both Shift-JIS and Windows Latin 2 (Central Europe, OEM code page 852) will not work:

> sshg3 username@server "type C:\鈴木\Šťovíček.txt"
