I'm trying to present the Tectia SSH Terminal Client version 6.2.x with a Windows 2008 Remote Desktop Server with XenApp 6.5. When I try to launch the SSH Terminal Client from a non-administrative account I get a Broker Error: Failed to connect to Broker: Unable to connect to Broker...Failed to start on-demand Broker. If I launch the SSH Terminal Client from an account with local administrator rights, the Broker gets started, and the client works fine. Does the on-demand Broker require special privileges in order to launch?

Hi Mojeska,

I haven't heard of any problems with Tectia SSH client on W28008 regarding priviledges. There should be no special rights needed. Though, if you have configured the client to write into windows event log, then you need that right of course. So you can check that.

To get more details why it does not start try running:

ssh-broker-g3 -D3 --console

in the account that has a problems and try to spot the reason in the log.

I hope this could help.

Permission on the Application log is the issue. If I change the permissions the application runs fine. Is there way to disable the Tectia broker from writing to the Windows Event Log? Changing the permissions on the Application log will be challenging because of Audit requirements.

Thanks,

To my understanding the connection broker component does not write to event log by default since version 6.1.?. However, there was an issue that caused broker to open handle to Application Event Log even it never wrote anything there. It seems that that issue has been fixed in version 6.2.4.

Therefore, if you have Tectia SSH client version 6.2.4 or newer and if you define "log-target" in "logging" element to "discard" (or if you skip "log-target" altogether; see here) then you shouldn't need to modify the Application Event Log ACL.
