Apparently someone out there has discovered this site and thinks it's something like Yahoo Answers. How can we let them know that this is a site targeted to people having issues with the SSH Tectia software suite? Time to go to a user registration system?

I think adding reCaptcha to the submission forms will help prevent the pesky bots reCaptch and OSQA

I don't think reCaptcha will help here. We already have it enabled for user registration as well as requiring email validation before posting. Problem is these are not bots posting those spam questions. These are people that get paid for specifically spamming sites like this.

The instructions for the site are under the faq and about links and they are very clear about the questions that can be asked here.

However I don't believe making them more prominent will help in this case. The majority (if not all) of the off-topic questions being posted are not real questions at all. They are spam disguised as questions/answers with links to other websites with the objective of increasing the search ranking of those sites. Unfortunately this is a side effect of this site becoming more popular among search results for SSH related searches in google and other search engines.

I've taken some steps to try to minimize this. Let's see how those work out and if stronger measures are needed. The problem with taking stronger measures (such as more reCaptchas or requiring a human to approve a question or answer before being posted) is that it would also turn away visitors with legitimate SSH/Tectia questions.

For now we'll keep monitoring the situation and deleting off-topic posts.

That's probably the best solution for now, I guess. I just don't want to see this useful resource ruined by spammers.
