In some Windows Server 2008 R2 the installation fails with error message "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BAB35C93D}. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9"

Do you know why?

The HRESULT 0x8007054F means it's an internal error and the component identified by {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D} is Microsoft.VC90.CRT.

The Tectia installer should be able to install different versions of the CRT. However, the installer fails unexpectedly. Probably the cause for this issue could be an unsuccessful install of prior Windows Updates...

We have not found the Microsoft Update that made this behavior to appear, but now it does not seem to happen anymore. In addition, we have found a workaround:

  • install manually the following packages:

a) Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9B2DA534-3E03-4391-8A4D-074B9F2BC1BF

b) Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=BD2A6171-E2D6-4230-B809-9A8D7548C1B6 * select custom installation * unselect "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package" * continue the installation
