I'm getting the following error when attempting to connect from ssh client 6.1.9 on windows 2003 sp2 to ssh server 6.1.9 on windows 2008 sp2 : -

401 Connection_denied, Error: Protocol error, Src IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, Dst IFace: listener, Dst IP: 0.0.0.0, Src Port: 41992, Dst Port: 7760, "Version exchange failed: Error while writing our version string."

Thanks, Roman for your help - I just sorted this by adding a static route on the server pointing back to the client via a different gateway ... something I should have checked in the first place !! cheers Geoff

Hi Geoff,

This error message is usually innocuous as you can see from this answer. I suspect this is not the reason your connection is failing. Can you edit your answer above and paste more of the audit messages leading to the connection failure?

Also, from the client try the connection with the verbose flag, such as:

sshg3 -v user@server

and paste the output in your question above as well. This should also give more insight as to why the connection is failing.
