Too many keys

Is the server running OpenSSH? The typical reason for this is that the client is trying public-key authentication first and there are more than 5 keys in the client. I believe OpenSSH has a default limit of 6 authentication attempts, and since it treats each attempted key as a failed authentication, after trying the 6th key it will fail the authentication without moving on to the next method (password).

There are various ways to solve this:

  1. Specify to use password authentication on Tectia Client when connecting to the server (either in the command line or in the connection profile).

  2. Remove some of the user keys in the client (or move them to another directory) so that not all keys are attempted against the server

  3. Increase the MaxAuthTries value in the OpenSSh config to something higher.
